This Critically Acclaimed Slasher Just Landed on Netflix!

Valentine’s Day is a historically underrepresented holiday in the horror space. Save for the celebrated classic My Bloody Valentine and Jamie Blanks’ criminally underrated Valentine, there haven’t always been a lot of options for those keen to indulge in some festive bloodshed tied to the most romantic day of the year. With the recent release of Josh Ruben’s Heart Eyes, we now have another noteworthy option to add to the lineup. Though Valentine’s Day 2025 has already come and gone, if you’re in the mood to indulge in a smart film that juxtaposes rom-com tropes alongside copious amounts of bloodshed, you can scratch that itch by checking out Heart Eyes on Netflix.
That’s right, as of May 8, 2025, the flick is available for Netflix subscribers to stream. Seeing as the film didn’t make a killing (no pun intended) at the box office, streaming performance will likely play an important role in determining if we see the Heart Eyes Killer ride again.
In Heart Eyes:
A masked maniac with glowing, red eyes returns every Valentine’s Day to slaughter unsuspecting couples. When a cynical ad executive and her hopelessly romantic colleague become the next target, they decide to fight back and end the reign of terror.
Heart Eyes took in $32.94 million at the global box office against an estimated (pre-marketing) budget of $18 million. If the film performs well for the streamer, there’s a better chance of a sequel eventually materializing. However, based on box office performance alone, it’s not entirely likely that we will see another installment.
Although it wasn’t a box office dynamo, the flick managed to win over critics. In fact, Heart Eyes is certified fresh on Rotten Tomatoes with a critical approval rating of 81%. Our Josh Korngut was among the picture’s fans, calling it “a fresh and entertaining twist on the genre that could pave the way for more horror-romantic comedies in the future.”

If you haven’t yet seen Heart Eyes and want to know how it resonates with you, head over to Netflix, where you can scope the film now!
That’s all we’ve got for you, for the time being. We hope you’ll go check Heart Eyes out if you haven’t already.
